Interview
Your artwork for Echoes, MACHINA.NATURÆ009A, was a stunning piece. Could you take us on the journey of creating this piece - from inspiration to execution and how it came to life?
As the title says, "MACHINA.NATURÆ009A", and the whole set of artworks belonging to that series, is inspired by a reflection on some topics of strict actuality such as: nature, humanity and technological progress.
As you see, there are some key elements defining this thoughts, starting from the woman figure posing on a lush garden, reaching for a luminous orb, with a vr set on her head and cables running in her back. So I basically wanted to put all this thing together, trying to give some sort of sparkle to the viewer, starting a reflection on these themes with those more sensitive to the topics.
With over a decade of experience, how has your artistic vision evolved from when you first started?
My artistic journey began as a playful exploration. As a graphic designer, I was constantly manipulating images, experimenting with color and composition. This naturally led me to explore 3D modeling and rendering, which opened up a whole new dimension of creative possibilities. Initially, these were purely aesthetic exercises – I enjoyed pushing the boundaries of what I could create digitally.
However, I gradually began to feel a desire to use my art to express deeper ideas and engage with more meaningful themes.
How do you think digital art contributes to the ongoing dialogue between humanity and technology?
Digital art significantly contributes to the ongoing dialogue between humanity and technology. Exploring themes like artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and the digital self, it prompts us to examine our evolving relationship with technology. Digital art redefines creative expression, pushing the boundaries of traditional art forms through innovative use of digital tools. This fosters collaboration between artists and technologists, bridging the gap between art and technology. Moreover, it enhances accessibility, allowing art to reach wider audiences through online platforms and it serves as a powerful medium for addressing crucial social and political issues, raising awareness and inspiring action. Digital art provides a unique lens through which we can explore and understand the complexities of the human-technology relationship.
Are there new concepts or technologies you’re eager to explore in your future work?
I'm eager to explore technologies that allow for more direct and interactive experiences with my art. I envision exhibitions that go beyond passive viewing, utilizing AI, AR/VR, biofeedback, and blockchain. I'm particularly interested in AI-powered art that responds to viewers and creates unique experiences.
I also aim to create immersive AR/VR installations that transport viewers into the world of my artwork. By integrating these technologies, I seek to create exhibitions that are not only visually stunning but also deeply engaging and thought-provoking, offering viewers a more meaningful connection with my art.
What advice would you give to emerging digital artists looking to break into the international art scene?
To aspiring artists, I say: Don't be afraid to put your art out there! Embrace feedback, both positive and constructive criticism. They are invaluable for growth and improvement.
Showcase your work relentlessly. This not only increases your visibility but also helps you build a strong network. Engage with fellow artists, curators, and galleries. Attend exhibitions, workshops, and online events.
Remember that building a successful art career takes time and dedication. Celebrate your achievements, learn from your setbacks, and stay true to your artistic vision. As an artist myself, I've learned that the most important thing is to stay passionate and authentic. Let your art reflect your unique voice and perspective. This world needs as much creativity as possible!
What advice would you give other artists starting out on their journey?
The most crucial advice for artists starting out is to actively engage with the world around them. Create consistently, whether it's through sketching, painting, sculpting, or any other medium. Explore your city, travel, read books, watch films, listen to music, play games – immerse yourself in diverse experiences.
Every interaction, every observation, every emotion can become fuel for your artistic expression. Gather inspiration from everything around you, from the mundane to the extraordinary. Don't be afraid to experiment, to try new things, to be curious, to discover stuff and to step outside your comfort zone.
Every artistic journey is precious and unique!
