The Eros theme resonated with you through its connection to Valentine’s Day. What about this theme sparked your creativity, and how did it influence your artistic approach? 

ENG: Throughout the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, both Valentine's Day and the cherub Cupid became independently associated with romantic love. The cultural crisis of modern society prompts thinkers to seek ways to understand the nature of human essence. Among the many pressing issues that focus on the inner experiences of the individual and the existential foundations that determine the sources of vital energy, sensuality and creative activity of man at all times, the concept of eros has always occupied a special place.

Moreover, in the same row with eros, similar in semantic load sexuality, desire, attraction, love can be placed. By the way, in many works, researchers "play" with these concepts, replacing one with another. Therefore, we emphasize that in this article we turn specifically to the concept of "eros". Its interpretation, starting from Greek philosophy, in a narrow sense looks like a manifestation of an instinctive personified powerful force that subjugates the will of a person, and in a broad sense - as spiritual energy that moves towards peace, perfection and divinity. And therefore I wanted to convey the spirit of this expression in the drawings.

GR: Κατά τη διάρκεια του Μεσαίωνα και της Αναγέννησης, τόσο η Ημέρα του Αγίου Βαλεντίνου όσο και το χερουβείμ Έρως συνδέθηκαν ανεξάρτητα με τη ρομαντική αγάπη. Η κρίση του πολιτισμού στη σύγχρονη κοινωνία ενθαρρύνει τους στοχαστές να αναζητήσουν τρόπους για να κατανοήσουν τη φύση της ανθρώπινης ουσίας. Ανάμεσα στα πολλά επίκαιρα ζητήματα που εστιάζουν στις εσωτερικές εμπειρίες του ατόμου και στα υπαρξιακά θεμέλια που καθορίζουν τις πηγές της ζωτικής ενέργειας, του αισθησιασμού και της δημιουργικής δραστηριότητας του ανθρώπου ανά πάσα στιγμή, η έννοια του Έρωτα κατείχε πάντα μια ξεχωριστή θέση. Επιπλέον, στην ίδια σειρά με τον έρωτα, μπορεί να υπάρχουν παρόμοιες έννοιες σε σημασιολογική σημασία: σεξουαλικότητα, επιθυμία, έλξη, αγάπη. Παρεμπιπτόντως, σε πολλά έργα, οι ερευνητές «παίζουν» με αυτές τις έννοιες, αντικαθιστώντας τη μία με την άλλη. Ως εκ τούτου, τονίζουμε ότι σε αυτό το άρθρο ασχολούμαστε με την έννοια του «έρως». Η ερμηνεία του, ξεκινώντας από την ελληνική φιλοσοφία, με στενή έννοια εμφανίζεται ως εκδήλωση μιας ενστικτώδους προσωποποιημένης ισχυρής δύναμης που υποτάσσει τη βούληση του ανθρώπου και με την ευρεία έννοια ως πνευματική ενέργεια που κινείται προς την ειρήνη, την τελειότητα και τη θεότητα. Και έτσι ήθελα να μεταφέρω το πνεύμα αυτής της έκφρασης στα σχέδια.

You intentionally chose charcoal black as your primary colour, stating that love already has many shades. How do you see this concept reflected in your work?

ENG: Each person has their own favorite color. People's tastes differ dramatically, some like bright shades, others prefer strict ones. Black is a symbol of strictness and steadfastness. It is generally accepted that black is associated with depression or negative emotions. Some people are prejudiced against this shade, because they have heard a lot of negative reviews about it. But is it as bad as it is described? In fact, black is worn by mysterious individuals who prefer not to stand out. This is a shade of mystery and enigma. Black, like a moonless night - this shade hides emotions and experiences behind it. People who wear clothes the color of the night are ready to fight and are passionate in their desires. But there is also a downside to this topic. When a person loves, all the colors begin to emerge in him and he begins to glow from the inside. Everyone highlights their own color palette of colors. 

GR: Κάθε άτομο έχει το δικό του αγαπημένο χρώμα. Τα γούστα των ανθρώπων διαφέρουν δραματικά, σε άλλους αρέσουν τα έντονα χρώματα, σε άλλους προτιμούν τα πιο αυστηρά. Το μαύρο είναι σύμβολο σοβαρότητας και σταθερότητας Είναι γενικά αποδεκτό ότι το μαύρο συνδέεται με τη κατάθλιψη ή αρνητικά συναισθήματα. Μερικοί άνθρωποι έχουν τη προκατάληψη για αυτήν την απόχρωση επειδή έχουν ακούσει πολλές αρνητικές κριτικές γι 'αυτό. Είναι όμως τόσο κακό όσο φαίνεται να είναι; Στην πραγματικότητα, το μαυρο φοριέται από μυστηριώδη άτομα που προτιμούν να μην ξεχωρίζουν. Έχει μια νότα μυστηρίου και αινίγματος. Αλλά υπάρχει και μια άλλη πλευρά σε αυτό το θέμα. Όταν ένας άνθρωπος αγαπά, όλα τα χρώματα αρχίζουν να αναδύονται μέσα του και αρχίζει να λάμπει από μέσα. Το καθένα έχει τη δική του χρωματική παλέτα.

As a self-taught artist who has participated in numerous competitions worldwide, how has this journey shaped your artistic expression and confidence?

ENG: I often hear objections such as: I’m self-taught, can I learn anything, become a professional? Or: I am self-taught, don’t judge me harshly, I was not taught this, we did not graduate from academies, etc. 

Do you think the great artist Van Gogh was self-taught? 

This list can be continued indefinitely. There is nothing shameful in being self-taught, but if you are a self-taught student and a poor student, then this is bad. I believe that of all talents, the main one is the talent to learn, to find the right teachers and to ask them the right questions. 

Is it possible to become an artist without a diploma? It is possible, because an artist is not made by a diploma, but by the knowledge he has and, of course, by what he wants to express with his work. Just never stop if something doesn't work out right away and look for your own technique and don't try to repeat or copy. We are not a wind-up conveyor belt for the release of a stamp. I believe that we should be inspired by great artists and teachers, they are our muses. And when we participate in exhibitions and competitions on an equal footing with professionals, of course, this raises the self-assessment. And when you are assessed by art critics. 

GR: Ακούω συχνά αντιρρήσεις όπως: είμαι αυτοδίδακτος, μπορώ να μάθω κάτι, να γίνω επαγγελματίας; Ή: Είμαι αυτοδίδακτος, μη με κρίνετε αυστηρά, δεν με έμαθαν αυτό, δεν αποφοιτήσαμε από τις ακαδημίες κ.λπ. 

Πιστεύετε ότι ο μεγάλος καλλιτέχνης Βαν Γκογκ ήταν αυτοδίδακτος; 

Αυτή η λίστα μπορεί να συνεχιστεί επ' αόριστον Δεν υπάρχει καμία ντροπή στο να είσαι αυτοδίδακτος, αλλά αν είσαι αυτοδίδακτος και φτωχός μαθητής, τότε αυτό είναι κακό. Πιστεύω ότι από όλα τα ταλέντα, το πιο σημαντικό είναι το ταλέντο να μαθαίνεις, να βρίσκεις τους κατάλληλους δασκάλους και να τους κάνεις τις σωστές ερωτήσεις.

Είναι δυνατόν να γίνεις καλλιτέχνης χωρίς δίπλωμα; Είναι δυνατόν, γιατί δεν είναι τοδίπλωμα που κάνει έναν καλλιτέχνη, αλλά οι γνώσεις που κατέχει και φυσικά αυτόπου θέλει να εκφράσει μέσα από τη δουλειά του. Απλώς μην σταματήσετε ποτέ εάνκάτι δεν λειτουργήσει αμέσως και αναζητήστε τη δική σας τεχνική και μηνπροσπαθήσετε να επαναλάβετε ή να αντιγράψετε. Δεν είμαστε ένας ιμάνταςμεταφοράς που παράγει γραμματόσημα. Πιστεύω ότι πρέπει να εμπνεόμαστε απόμεγάλους καλλιτέχνες και δασκάλους. Και όταν συμμετέχουμε σε εκθέσεις καιδιαγωνισμούς ισότιμα με τους επαγγελματίες, φυσικά αυτό ανεβάζει την ίδια τηνεκτίμηση. Και όταν σε κρίνουν οι κριτικοί τέχνης.

Among all the pieces you’ve created, which one is the most meaningful to you? What was its inspiration, and why does it stand out in your body of work?

ENG: Works of art have an amazing ability to touch our emotions, provoke reflection and leave a deep mark on our soul. Many of them quite unexpectedly become a source of inspiration and call us to new journeys of thought. Remembering such works that had the strongest influence on me, I wondered what qualities of them determined this. 

These are two paintings, one of them is "Beautiful World" was painted on burlap and it was very difficult for me to make friends with it at first because of its texture and I painted it for 3.5 months and it was painted during the difficult period of covid when we were isolated from everything. 

And the second painting is called "Flowers for Mom" I finished painting this picture and published it on the internet that same day in the morning, and in the evening of the same day after a long illness I was informed that my mother had passed away. 

And this picture left its mark on my soul. And I never sent it to a competition anywhere. 

GR: Τα έργα τέχνης έχουν μια εκπληκτική ικανότητα να αγγίζουν τα συναισθήματά μας, να προκαλούν σκέψη και να αφήνουν βαθύ σημάδι στην ψυχή μας. Πολλά από αυτά γίνονται απροσδόκητη πηγή έμπνευσης και μας καλούν σε νέα ταξίδια σκέψης. Καθώς σκέφτομαι τα έργα που είχαν τη μεγαλύτερη επιρροή πάνω μου, αναρωτιέμαι ποιες ιδιότητες είχαν που τα έκαναν έτσι. 

Πρόκειται για δύο πίνακες, ο ένας είναι ο «Όμορφος κόσμος» ζωγραφίστηκε σε λινάτσα και στην αρχή δυσκολεύτηκα πολύ να “γίνουμε φίλοι” λόγω της υφής του και τον ζωγράφιζα για 3,5 μήνες και ζωγραφίστηκε στη δύσκολη περίοδο του covid που ήμασταν απομονωμένοι από τα πάντα. 

Και ο δεύτερος πίνακας, ονόματι «Λουλούδια για τη μαμά», τελείωσα τη ζωγραφικήαυτού του πίνακα και τον δημοσίευσα στο διαδίκτυο την ίδια μέρα το πρωί, και τοβράδυ της ίδιας μέρας, μετά από μια μακρά ασθένεια, με ενημέρωσαν ότι η μητέραμου είχε πεθάνει. Και αυτή η εικόνα άφησε το σημάδι της στην ψυχή μου. Δεν τηνέστειλα ποτέ σε κανένα διαγωνισμό.

What do you hope viewers take away from your Eros collection? Is there a specific feeling or message you want them to experience? 

ENG: Remembering that time in your life, a time of high emotion, hormones, and mental anguish, and not only finding the light but also the peace. There is an infectious positivity in each of those moments, which is certainly coupled with a sense of humor. If I could go back to that moment, I would say to myself, “This is going to be the best thing that ever happened to you.” If someone had said that to me back then, I would have been like, “Are you crazy?” But now I can say LOVE is beautiful. Love and give love. Seize the day because nothing lasts forever and neither do we. What I find exciting and interesting is being able to learn more about myself by saying, “I start here. This is my foundation. I am a positive person. I am a speaker. I want to inspire people.”

GR: Αναμνήσεις από αυτή την περίοδο της ζωής σου που προκάλεσε καταιγίδα συναισθημάτων, ορμονών και ψυχικής αγωνίας και να βρεις όχι μόνο φως, αλλά και γαλήνη. Σε κάθε μία από αυτές τις στιγμές της ζωής, μπορεί κανείς να νιώσει τη μολυσματική θετικότητά της, η οποία αναμφίβολα συνδυάζεται με αίσθηση του χιούμορ. Αν μπορούσα να επιστρέψω σε εκείνη τη στιγμή, θα έλεγα στον εαυτό μου: «Αυτό θα είναι το καλύτερο πράγμα που σου συνέβη ποτέ». Αν μου το έλεγε κάποιος τότε, θα έλεγα «είσαι τρελός;». Αλλά τώρα μπορώ να πω ότι η ΑΓΑΠΗ είναι όμορφη. Αγαπήστε και δώστε αγάπη. Αδράξτε τη μέρα γιατί τίποτα δεν διαρκεί για πάντα και ούτε εμείς. Αυτό που βρίσκω συναρπαστικό και ενδιαφέρον είναι η ευκαιρία να μάθετε περισσότερα για τον εαυτό σας λέγοντας: «Ξεκινάω εδώ. Αυτό είναι το θεμέλιο μου. Είμαι θετικός άνθρωπος. Είμαι ρήτορας. Θέλω να εμπνέω τους ανθρώπους».
